Portbyhan Hotel, Looe, Cornwall - 5 Days The Portbyhan Hotel is situated in an unrivalled position right in the heart of Looe, allowing guests to relish the panoramic views of the vibrant harbour with only a short stroll into Looe town. The Edwards family, who operate an award-winning holiday company in South Wales, purchased the hotel in June 2013 and have since invested over £2.1 Million in a full-refurbishment of the exterior, bedrooms, restaurant, bar and public areas. These renovations, the location and the excellent services that the hotel offers have all contributed to the Portbyhan Hotel recently winning “Best Individual Hotel” at the prestigious National Coach Tourism Awards. An award winning 3* hotel. Room facilities include comfortable en-suite bathroom with complimentary toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary WiFi access, dressing table and chair, extra pillows available upon request, LCD TV offering Freeview channels and hairdryer. Lift to all rooms

The itinerary will include:

Day One: Depart from Spalding at 8am, with a couple of stops at the services, arriving at our hotel about 5pm

Day Two: Depart from the hotel at 10am, to Plymouth. The city’s most famous landmark, The Mayflower Steps marks the point where the Pilgrim Fathers are thought to have set sail for North America in 1620. Enjoy the splendid views of the bay from the grassy headland of Hoe Promenade or the blue waters of the beautifully restored Tinside swimming pool. Make sure you sample some of Plymouth’s famous gin at the Black Friars Distillery. Ramble around the Barbican’s maze of cobbled streets – the historic waterfront area is packed with art galleries, restaurants and buzzing bars.

Day Three: Depart the hotel at 10am to the Lost Gardens of Heligan. An aristocratic estate left to rack and ruin, as nature reclaims the buildings under a carpet of green. On paper this place sounds like something from Sleeping Beauty, but we can assure you that the Lost Gardens of Heligan are real enough. In fact you'll find them near Mevagissy in Cornwall. Heligan was the seat of the Tremayne family for 400 years, but after the Second World War it was abandoned and reclaimed by nature. No bad thing, really; because after one of the largest garden restoration programmes in Europe, it's open to everyone to enjoy. There's more than 200 acres to explore including a jungle with banana plantations, giant rhubarbs and tunnels of towering bamboo, along with the lost valley with lakes, hidden paths and roosting boxes for the local bats. Come here in spring and you'll find the place covered in bluebells.

Day Four: Depart from the hotel at 10am to Polperro, returning to the hotel early afternoon, so that you have free time to enjoy Looe before our departure tomorrow. One of the most popular places in Cornwall, the village of Polperro is undoubtedly one of the prettiest. Packed tightly into a steep valley on either side of the River Pol, the quaint colour-washed cottages and twisting streets offer surprises at every turn: the Saxon and Roman bridges, the famous House on Props, the old Watch House, the fish quay, and the 16th century house where Dr. Jonathan Couch lived, naturalist and grandfather of the celebrated writer Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch. With its protected inner harbour full of colourful boats. Polperro is still a working fishing village, although tourism provides the main source of income. Attractions include a Museum of Smuggling and a Model Village.

Day Five: Depart from the hotel at 9.30am, with appropriate stops on route. We expect to arrive back in Spalding at 6.30pm.

Please note that all times are approximate until you receive your final itinerary two weeks before departure.
