How many other artists have had an area of the country named after them?  “I should paint my own places best” John Constable said and we are sure you will be as inspired as he was, as we journey through the River Stour Valley, the area associated with our famous artist, and visit some of the scenes immortalised in his paintings. We will start our tour at the lovely village of Long Melford, where we pause for morning coffee at The Bull Hotel and meet our Blue Badge Guide. Driving through the picturesque countryside that inspired our Painter we arrive at East Bergholt, Constables birthplace, for a short walk of the village and an opportunity to visit the famous ‘bell cage’ and view the interior of the parish church (subject to availability). Leaving East Bergholt, we then take the short drive to Dedham, where we enjoy our lunch (not included).  This is an attractive village on the Essex/Suffolk border with Georgian fronted houses alongside old inns, tea rooms, a large arts/crafts centre and an impressive 15th Century Church.  It is also where Constable went to School and an optional short guided tour of the village centre will be offered. In the afternoon we travel to Flatford Mill, owned by the National Trust.  Here our Blue Badge Guide will take us on a guided walk to see the scenes of four of John Constable’s paintings including the famous Haywain.  There will also be an opportunity to visit the small exhibition and shop.  There is a National Trust Tea Room at Flatford for you to purchase afternoon refreshments overlooking the River Stour, before we make our journey home
