The itinerary will include

Day 1 Depart from Long Sutton at 7am. P&O Crossing from Dover to Calais, arriving at the Hotel Carlton President Utrecht/Maarssen about 8.30pm. If you require a hot meal today this can be purchased on the ferry or at the motorway services.

Day 2 Depart from the hotel at 9.30am, for Keukenhof Gardens. Keukenhof, the best day out among the flowers! There are more than 7 million bulbs in bloom this spring, with a total of 800 varieties of tulips. A unique and unforgettable experience! Besides the spacious 32 hectares of flowers you can enjoy the spectacular flower shows, surprising inspirational gardens, unique artwork and wonderful events. Do not miss the Tulpomania exhibition in the Juliana Pavilion. Returning from Kuekenhof Gardens at 5pm.

Day 3 Leave the hotel at 10am. A unique piece of Dutch history on the River Zaan. The Zaanse Schans is a residential area in which the 18th and 19th centuries are brought to life. Stroll past the bakery museum and enjoy the smell of fresh bread, or take a look at the warehouse where clogs are made. You should be sure not to miss the cheese factory, pewter foundry and the various windmills. The Zaanse Schans is a unique part of the Netherlands, full of wooden houses, mills, barns and workshops, browse the shops or treat yourself at the pancake restaurant. Mid-afternoon we will make our way to Marken, taste the atmosphere of the traditional fishing village. The village of Marken was separated from the mainland after a storm surge in the 13th century. A centuries-long period of isolation followed for the community which made their money with fishing. These days, tourism is a major source of income. The typical houses and the traditional costumes are reminiscent of the past. In the old days, the island was flooded quite regularly. For this reason, houses were built on stilts and on mounds. The dike, which was constructed in 1957, once more links the island to the mainland. You’ll have to see it with your own eyes to believe how a community could live on a small island in the former Zuiderzee (‘Southern Sea’) for centuries. The charms of Marken with its characteristic houses and costumes are likely to steal your heart. Departing from Marken at 6pm

Day 4 Depart from the hotel at 10am. Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ capital, known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system and narrow houses with gabled facades, legacies of the city’s 17th-century Golden Age. Its Museum District houses the Van Gogh Museum, works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk, and Anne Frank House. Departing from Amsterdam at 7.30pm

Day 5 Leave the hotel at 9.30am for our return journey. Arriving back in Long Sutton about 8.30pm
