Bodelwyddan Castle, North Wales - 5 days Bodelwyddan (pronounced bod-el-with-an), is a Grade II listed Victorian building near the North Wales coast, not far from Snowdonia. Set within the grounds of a romantic castle, but with all the amenities of a modern Hotel, including a superb range of leisure facilities, numerous daily activities, and nightly live entertainment. The hotel was given a £6 million renovation and awarded a 4* AA award. Start your day properly with a hearty breakfast on us and at the end of the day, sample local flavours prepared with seasonal produce. There's plenty to fill your evenings with, including musicals, bands, DJs, comedians, and visiting artists - all in intimate, exclusive venues. From dance classes to outdoor pursuits and even gardener-led tours in heritage grounds, there's lots to see and do out in the grounds or along the coast. Our pools are open all day for a quick dip and water aerobics classes, but you'll also find yoga studios, cinemas, games rooms and saunas waiting for you. All rooms come with a tea tray, topped up daily with coffee, tea and hot chocolate, plus a selection of luxe products in the bathroom.

Day 1 - Depart from Spalding at 8am, arriving at Bodelwyddan Castle about 4pm

Day 2 - Depart the hotel at 10am. Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway. Starting amidst the slate tips that signal its historic industrial past; passengers will follow the path of the old slate trains as they transported their loaded wagons to the harbour at Porthmadog. During your downward journey along the dramatic slopes of the Vale of Ffestiniog, you will steam through ancient woodlands, long tunnels and around a spiral at Dduallt, one of the primary engineering feats of the railway. Each section has its fascinating story, and your journey is much enhanced by the Traveller's Guide with its open out map and line guide to enable you to follow the route. The train continues down the valley, through the village stations of Penrhyn and Minffordd. About a mile after leaving Minffordd, the train passes through a short tunnel under the road. Shortly after, you will see Boston Lodge Workshops on the left-hand side of the train. You may catch a glimpse of some of the lottery funded work progressing. Finally, it crosses the Cob embankment to its destination at the coastal town of Porthmadog. Here, the slate was transferred to sailing ships in the once busy harbour and transported all over the world. There is plenty of time for passengers to explore the harbour area, visit the maritime museum to find out about its past, and enjoy some lunch before our journey back to the hotel by coach.

Day 3 - Depart the hotel at 10am to Llangollen. Free time in Llangollen before our 2-hour horse-drawn canal boat trip to the Horseshoe Falls. This is your chance to see the mesmerising Horseshoe Falls on the River Dee. This is the perfect activity whatever the weather, as our modern purpose-built boats have both inside and outside seating areas. Take in the splendour of Thomas Telford's Horseshoe Falls at the head of the Llangollen Canal, along with the newly restored Chain Bridge at Berwyn that reopened in 2015. This is possibly the most beautiful length of canal you will ever see and the horse drawn trip is definitely the most peaceful and relaxing way to see it

Day 4 - Depart the hotel at 10am to Llandudno. In a nutshell. Everyone loves Llandudno. Who could possibly argue with that while strolling along Llandudno's elegant promenade past pastel-coloured hotels and impeccably authentic seafront architecture just like Victorians did? All that's needed to complete the picture is a frilly parasol (for the ladies) and straw boater (for the gentlemen). Llandudno's appearance is down to the fact that, unlike most other resorts, it has remained largely unchanged for over a century. There's a pier (the longest in Wales) and Punch and Judy, donkey rides on the beach and canopied shopping streets just behind the prom. Put simply, Llandudno is a classic of its kind.

Day 5 - Depart from the hotel at 9.30am, with a lunchtime stop at the British Ironwork Centre. The British Ironwork Centre displays and sells a stunning and varied collection of metal work and decorative items - large and small - for the home and garden. Some of their collections are faithful reproductions of beautiful ironwork no longer seen today, whilst many others are new, improved items, as glamorous and individual as their originals but with contemporary twists. The Centre is also home to a splendid collection of magnificent animal sculptures from the majestic Silver-Back Gorilla, to an adorable assortment of Farmyard animals. Indoor show areas allow you to escape into a treasure trove of trinkets and interior adornments, whilst the outdoor area is abundant with architectural structures and sculptures that must be seen to be believed. Arriving back in Spalding at 6pm
